Meeting Notice 19 June 2012

From: VPE Chee Hoe Chor
Date: 13 June 2012 10:49 AM
Subject: Re: Friendship Meeting on 19 June 2012 - Character is for Eternity

Dear Friends,
In less than a week, we will have our final meeting for the term 2011/12. I am starting to miss my VPE role but I believe the incoming VPE, Daphne Au will do a better job than me! She will inspire us in this 'Character is for Eternity' meeting with her graduation speech!

The theme of this meeting comes from the quote "Reputation is for time; character is for eternity." by J. B. Gough. The noble character of oneself will be remembered for eternity - it is timeless! Toastmasters always emphasize the importance of good character, hence one of the Toastmasters core values is respect for the individual.

We are in the Toastmasters circle to learn, to share and to help each other. Our journey in Toastmasters will only be beneficial if we have good and positive character. In this meeting, we have positive and passionate Toastmasters who take the initiative to try out something new!

- Ean will present her Ice Breaker speech, the very first prepared speech in her new journey in Toastmasters.

- Humour Master Timothy will tickle us with his funny bones. He told me that he is not a humourous person and he has no funny bones within. However, he is passionate to give it a try!

- Our new member Wai Lik will deliver his project speech in Friendship meeting environment for his very first time.

- Nancy will be our Ah-Counter for her very first time. She has decided to do her CL assignments in parallel with her CC projects.

Let's give all these first-timers the warmest support and provide them with valuable feedback! Enjoy the FUN of the last meeting of this term!

Meeting Notice 5 June 2012

From: VPE Chee Hoe Chor
Date: 31 May 2012 9:52 PM
Subject: Friendship Meeting on 5 June 2012 - Dream Deep, Reach High

"Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal." --- Pamela Vaull Starr

Pamela Vaull Starr is one of my favourite poets. Her amazing quote is the basis of our meeting theme 'Dream Deep, Reach High'.

All of us have hidden talents and achievable dreams. With passion and insight, we are able to consummate our targets in life. How do we go beyond just knowing ourselves and not limiting ourselves to what we think we are able to do? We dream, then we use our strength to move forward and become passionate. Being passionate, we will be the consummate achiever of our reachable goals. Being passionate Toastmasters, we will accomplish our objective - to be better speakers and leaders!

In this meeting, we will have two CCs-to-be who will inspire us with their graduation speeches. Our General Evaluator, Ahmad Zakie is kind enough to say 'yes' to my invitation when DTM Faang Pyng cancelled her plan to visit our club due to district matters. Ahmad Zakie also encourages his staff to visit our club to find out more about Toastmasters. We should show our gratitude to this nice gentleman!

Besides, the team of evaluators is geared up to provide us with fruitful and constructive feedback! Where else should you go on this Tuesday night beside attending this wonderful meeting?

Meeting Notice 8 May 2012

From: VPE Chor Chee Hoe
Date: 4 May 2012 18:22
Subject: Friendship Meeting on 8 May 2012 - Self-actualisation

To: Friendship Members

My mind was overwhelmed by Dana LaMon's inspirational speech. Last Saturday, I chose to be a passionate Toastmaster by attending District 51 Annual Convention. Motivated by the speeches in the convention, I realised how to actualise my own potential and how to catalyse my personal growth. That's what our coming meeting theme is about - 'Self-actualisation'.

Besides being a responsible club treasurer, Our TME Ian Tai is also a young and talented author. His first book has received good responses in local book stores. He is now working on his second masterpiece.

Our General Evaluator is another testimony of 'Self-actualisation'. He is the current MAS Melor Toastmasters Club President and Area G4 Governor. How does he manage to take up these two important roles at the same time? How does he actualise his self-potential? You can find out more from him during the meeting. It's goint to be another enriching meeting!

Subject:  Friendship Meeting on 17 April 2012 – Life Is Variable

To: Friendship Members

Dear Friends,
Life is unpredictable! Life is variable! Life is always full of surprises!

Life is a fairy tale. Daphne Au often reminds us that life is like a fairy tale. As our TME, I believe she will direct us into wonderland !

Life is about fostering friendship. It's time for all Friendship members to reunite and welcome our newest member, Nancy Soo. She will be presenting her Ice Breaker speech. Let's give her the warmest Friendship support!

Life is about aspiration and inspiration. Be prepared to be inspired by our General Evaluator, DTM Sharmini Helen. DTM Sharmini was the first lady to be appointed as the President in CIMA Malaysia Toastmasters Club. As a polished speaker and an influential leader, she was also the first CIMA member to be elected as Area Governor and Division B Governor.

Life is variable! We will have something special for you in this meeting because life is full of surprises! It will be another fun and enriching meeting!

Together let's embrace and enjoy what we have in life! C'est la vie!

Subject: Friendship Meeting on 3 April 2012 – Power of Imagination
To: Friendship Members

"First comes thought, then organization of that thought into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination." --- NAPOLEON HILL

We use our powers of imagination at work, to see the possibilities, and to see how it can be done. Imagination turns possibilities into reality. In Toastmasters, we also exercise our powers of imagination during Table Topics, Project Speeches and Evaluation. You may only imagine yourself to be a future public speaker, but with the effort you put in, it will become a reality!

On 3 April, our TME Moses Wong will pilot us into a night of imagination! With Invocator Grace, Table Topics Master Sylvia, speakers Daphne, Ian and Freddie, we will definitely enjoy another awesome meeting!

We are honoured to have Area G3 Governor, Victor Ong as our General Evaluator; and also a great line-up of visiting Toastmasters as our role players. Thank you Siew Ping, Kenneth and Stefanie for your enthusiasm in helping out!

See you on 3 April!

Meeting Notice 21 February 2012

From: VPE Chee Hoe
Date: 10 February 2012 7:29 PM
Subject: Friendship Meeting on 21 February 2012 - Take Calculated Risks

"What I encourage people to do is picture themselves 20 years from now in the same job at the same desk and with the same people, simply to show them what will happen if they don't take any risks. The color just drains out of their faces. But if you don't make an effort to change and get what you want, then life probably won't turn out how you want it to," says psychologist Gary Leboff.

Dear Friends,
Taking risks can be both the smartest and silliest thing you can do with your life. That risky decision may elevate you to a greater height. That risky decision may relegate you into a deeper valley. No worries! You will learn the most through that deep fall and soar high again by taking accurately calculated risks!

Our amazing Grace Tan as the TME will definitely ignite the excitement of the meeting, with the enlightenment from 2 project speeches by Daphne and Ian. They will share with you well-researched and visually stimulating topics!

With the company of DTM G Sivalingam as our GE and the experienced team of evaluators, this meeting is never at risk. I can assure that it will be another fun and fruitful meeting!

We will be meeting up in Dewan Berjaya, a different ballroom that may uplift our creativity! Do put your new found creativity into test by trying out the Table Topics. Please bring your guests and have a great time with friends!

Meeting Notice 31 January 2012

From: VPE Chee Hoe
To: Friendship Members
Date: 5 January 2012 10:09 PM
Subject: Friendship International Speech Contest & Table Topics Contest - 31 January 2012

Dear Friendship Members,
The annual International Speech and Table Topics Contests will be held on 31 January 2012, one week after our joyous Chinese New Year.

Thank you very much for those who have signed up to be contestants!
Personally, I think that participating in a contest is not about winning. It's the golden opportunity to practice and polish your speaking and thinking skills. It offers you the valuable experience that may transform you to be a better speaker and listener!

If you haven't sign up as a contestant, all you have to do is prepare a 5 to 7 minutes speech for the International Speech Contest. You may speak on any topic, but try not to touch on politics, sex and religion. There is a minimum qualification for the International Speech Contest - you must complete the first six speeches in the Competent Communication manual.

For the Table Topics Contest, it is similar to our regular Table Topics Session. You will be given 2 minutes to speak on an impromptu topic. As the Organising Chair, I promise that I will prepare speaker-friendly topics. So what are you waiting for? Quickly, hastily and rapidly sign up for this Table Topics Contest!

The winners will represent Friendship and proceed to our Area W3 Contest to be held on Saturday 25 February 2012. As the Organising Chair for both Friendship and Area W3 Contests, I'm still looking for role players Ballot-counter, Timer and SAA. Looking forward to your kind reply and helpful support!

An early wish of Happy Chinese New Year to you !

Subject: Friendship Meeting on 17 January 2012 - Words of Wisdom

Dear Friends,
We are often inspired by words of wisdom. Those words sometimes take us into deep thoughts and sometimes they brightened up our days!

Wisdom is the quality of being wise. Let me share with you a quote, or rather words of wisdom.

The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook.
William James, American psychologist and philosopher

This quote is easy to understand but it's hard to put into practice.

As Toastmasters, we become wiser after completing the tasks that we volunteer to take up, either leadership roles or speaking opportunities. We grow as we complete the task. Although the completed task may not be a masterpiece, it is definitely good training ground for us to learn, grow and improve.

In this meeting, many members and visiting Toastmasters are taking up various meeting roles to learn, grow and improve. Through learning and improving, we become wiser and smarter.

Attend the meeting with your guests and you will be amazed by the assertiveness of our members Sivadas, Alexandra, Sylvia, Daphne, Andy, Ben, Zaiton, Kim, Lay Theng and Ian! Thank you to our amazing Grace, for helping me to invite dedicated Toastmasters from other clubs to make our meeting merrier !

Subject: Friendship Meeting on 3 January 2012 - Overcome the Barriers

Dear Friends,
We are stepping into a brand new year! Happy New Year 2012! Have you set your new year resolution? Do you have barriers that you wish to overcome?

Kieren John Perkins, a former Australian professional swimmer says, "Being your best is not so much about overcoming the barriers other people place in front of you as it is about overcoming the barriers we place in front of ourselves. It has nothing to do with how many times you win or lose. It has no relation to where you finish in a race or whether you break world records. But it does have everything to do with having the vision to dream, the courage to recover from adversity and the determination never to be shifted from your goals."

Overcoming the barriers we place in front of ourselves - easier said than done! A lot of effort are required to overcome these barriers. Friendship Toastmasters Club offer us the best environment to overcome our barriers in communication and leadership. We have the opportunity to participate in every club meeting, event or contest to demolish the barriers that we place in front of ourselves.

In our upcoming meeting on 3 January, we will discover ways to overcome our barriers with this great line-up - GE DTM Devikamani Menon, TME Lay Theng; Project Speakers Daphne, Susan and Kwok Hung; Table Topics Evaluator Sivadas & Evaluators Ian, Zaiton and Angeline.

May this new year bring great success to all of us!

Subject: Friendship Meeting on 6 December 2011 - Esprit de Corps
To: Friendship members & guests

Dear Friends,
You may be wondering: why did we choose Esprit de Corps as our meeting theme ?

This term, originating from France, means a sense of inspiration, enthusiasm, devotion and honour among the members of a group.

In my opinion, esprit de corps is the foundation of Friendship Toastmasters Club. Our teamwork is the secret of our success in achieving President Distinguished Club award for 7 consecutive years. The enthusiastic and devoted spirit found in Friendship members is the true definition of esprit de corps.

Past President Ben Fong will be our genial host, as our TME. With the services of Low Yat Seow DTM, District 51 Governor 2005/2006 as our General Evaluator, we will have yet another fruitful meeting.

We have three speakers, Daphne, Kwok Hung and Lay Theng to enlighten and entertain us with their project speeches !

Our hardworking VPM Alexandra has officially launched her Membership Campaign. It’s time for us to do our part and bring as many guests as you can to our meetings. Let’s have a massive gathering of Friendship members and ‘uncountable’ guests!

With your presence, we will have a perfect Esprit de Corps meeting !
