Announcement_Speech Contests

Angeline Lee, VPE

Dear Friendship Members,

Our International Speech and Table Topics Contests will be held on 25 Jan 2011, one week after our regular club meeting on 18 Jan.

Who will be our next International Speech Contest Champion ?
Who will be our next Table Topics Contest Champion ?

The answer is YOU !

All you have to do is sign up to be a contestant and prepare your 5-7 minute speech for the International Speech Contest. You may speak on any topic, as long as it is in good taste. The minimum qualification is that you have completed the first six speeches in the Competent Communication manual

For the Table Topics Contest, you will have 2 practice sessions at our Jan 4 and 18 meetings to prepare for your winning 1-2 minutes impromptu speech on 25 Jan. The minimum qualification is that you are a Toastmasters member.

You may be thinking, "But I don’t like to take part in contests".

Why don’t you think of it as another opportunity to practice and polish your speaking and thinking skills ? Instead of a U-shape table arrangement, you will be facing an audience seated in a theatre style arrangement. There will be a slightly larger crowd and you will see new faces (visitors from other Toastmasters clubs). All of us want you to win !

The winners will proceed to our Area W3 Contest to be held on Thursday 3 March 2011 at 7 PM. The winners from Area W3 Contest will then proceed to Division W Contest to be held at Great Eastern Hall on Sat 13 March 2011 1.30 PM.

The trophy for the Friendship International Speech & Table Topics Contests awaits the rightful owner – YOU. Take the first step and sign up for the contest. If you are new and need help/guidance on what to do as a contestant, just ask and you shall receive (the answers).

Looking forward to hearing from you, the future Friendship International Speech and Table Topics Champion.

Best regards,
Angeline, VPE

Announcement from Alexandra, VPPR

Subject: FTMC wants to share photos with you on Facebook Page

Dear Friendship Toastmasters,

Felt like it was just yesterday we came back from the FTMC's Breakfree & Breakaway Program in Malacca. It was FANTASTIC, FUN and UNFORGETTABLE. Of course, it will be even greater if ALL OF US have participated in this event.

I enjoyed myself taking the role as photographer in this event. Although my photography skill is rough than an amateur, I would like to share the photos with you. Please view the photos in our club’s Facebook page

If you do not have a Facebook account, I strongly recommend you to sign up and take 0.099 second to “LIKE” our FTMC’s facebook page. Feel free to put in your comments too. Your effort will help us to promote the club and create awareness. Thanks very much and have a wonderful weekend.

Regards,
Alexandra Lau

Membership Building Contest

Announcement from Chor Chee Hoe, VPM

Dear Friends,

*
The Friendship Membership Building Contest is happening from September to November 2010.

Before telling you more about the contest, I would like to ask you: "Why did you join Toastmasters?" For most members, it’s because someone invited them to a Toastmasters meeting and they discovered the benefits that Toastmasters provide.

*
Dr Ralph C Smedley said, “The deepest joy of belonging comes as one learns to coorperate, contribute and help…” That’s why we all are still retaining our membership by paying the semi-annual fees.

Have you invited anyone to our club meeting?

*
Think of the people you know who should join Toastmasters.

*
Make a list, speak to them and invite them to our meeting. Don't be shy but don’t be too aggressive. Let us share with others the benefits we have gained for ourselves. Give them the opportunity!

The membership campaign committee members, Alexandra and Wai Yee, are working together with all of you, to make this contest a success. Every member has an equal chance to be the winner of the contest!

When you attend a regular meeting, you earn 3 points.
When you bring a guest to our meeting, you earn 5 points.
When you manage to sponsor a member, you earn 10 points.

The member who collects the most points at the end of November will be the winner of the contest. The winner will be presented with a mystery gift sponsored by our IPP Ben Fong.

In addition to that, any member who manages to sponsor 5 or more new members will be awarded with one term of free membership. So, what are you waiting for? Spread the greatness of Friendship with others as soon as possible!

*
To date, Grace has collected the most points, 21 points in total, followed by Tony Lim, 16 points. Members, hurry up and overtake Tony and Grace!

Best Regards,
Chee Hoe

15th March 2010

Dear Members,

Good afternoon to all of you, I am pleased to inform you that our International Speech Contest and Table Topics Contest on the 16th March 2010 is on schedule and all preparation building up towards it is on track. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your contributions to the club. The people behind the scenes who made it happen and all the contestants who took up the challenge in the spirit of participation.

I have been entrusted with the role of the Organising Chair for this particular Contest. I wish all of you could make the time to attend and support the club for this event as it is a good platform for us to learn and get some experience by observing the more proficient speakers who have benefited from their journey in toastmasters.

There will be prizes for the winners of the contest and a gift will be presented to the person who name the winners correctly in each contest.

Contestants, please take note that there is a briefing at 6.30 pm at the meeting venue where we will go over the rules with you again prior to the start of the contest.

All role players, please try to be there at 6.30 pm to assist in the event.

I leave you all with a quote by Ursula K. LeGuin

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end”

Keep up the good work and have a great week ahead.

Regards,

Ben Fong
