Report by Angeline Lee
Club Secretary

With the incoming and outgoing Club Presidents, Area Governors and Division Governors in our 1 June Beyond Right or Wrong meeting, the stage was set for an eventful evening.

In his Invocation speech, Tom Chen reminded us to take care of our attitude, because everything else will take care of itself after that. Likewise we can choose to have fun and smile at this meeting, or choose to be bored. Of course, we chose to have fun and smile ! We certainly would not have tolerated (Word of the Day) a boring meeting.

Next, Chor Wai Yee led the table topics session and had 4 eager volunteers to answer 4 theme-related questions. Although it was her first attempt being a Table Topics Master, Wai Yee was well-prepared and handled the session with ease.

In the prepared speech session, 4 speakers entertained and educated us on various topics. Chor Chee Hoe awoke the travelers in each one of us when he said literature is an instant journey we can undertake. We would be guided by talented tour guides as we read their masterpieces i.e. the books that they have written.

Kent Ho challenged us to be a fleeing flea or to be a fantastic flea while Roslyn Tan demonstrated various martial art poses and movements in her “Emei Gung Fu” speech.

In her tenth speech, Elaine shared with us her obtacles in preparing this speech. She also shared her experience as an emcee to an event attended by 200 people and how her Toastmasters training enabled her to be inspired for this task.

Best Table Topics Speaker – Grace Tan
Best Project Speaker – Roslyn Tan
Best Speech Evaluator – Grace Tan
CC Pin – Elaine Tan
Mentor Pin – Tan Lay Theng

As all the award winners for tonight are with the Tan surname, Tony Lim made a remark that he should change his surname to Tan as well !

In his Division Governor address, DTM Soh Fong Wai commended on Friendship’s achievement of its 9th DCP point. He also praised Area Governor Tan Lay Theng’s achievement in grooming future leaders of Toastmasters and her role as club mentor for ING Leadership Toastmasters Club.

At the end of the meeting, we had positive reviews from our guests Siti Zubaidah and Alireza. In fact, this is Alireza’s second visit to Friendship and he has informed us that it will not be his last visit.

Listening to Siti Zubaidah are Grace Tan, Chor Chee Hoe, Kent Ho, Table Topics Master Chor Wai Yee and Timer Sivadas

Join us in our next meeting on 15 June with the theme Going Forward. Our TME will be Chor Chee Hoe. It will be his first time as a TME, and he is going forward in his Toastmasters journey by taking up this challenging role. How about you ? Will you also be going forward by offering to take up meeting roles and speaking slots ?
