Club Meeting 4th September 2012: When The Student is ready to learn, the Master Will Appear

Despite of the heavy rain, Friendship Club meeting on September 4th went spectacularly well with our lovely Toastmistress of the Night, VPM Sylvia Tan. Everyone would agree that the meeting went as “Smooth as Silk”, just like cruising in Thai Airways.

Nancy took the role as Table Topic Master for the first time

The Table Topic session was brilliantly conducted by Nancy Soo, whom our General Evaluator commented, “It was a fair and balance session with questions accentuated the essence of today’s meeting theme.” Congratulations to Nancy for a job well done in her first attempt as the Table Topic Master!
Past President Tan Lay Theng, Victor Ong, Sylvia Tan and guests, Ben and Chong volunteered and delivered their table topic with flying colors.
Table Topic Speakers of the evening
We had four project speakers for the evening.  First, it was Distinguished Toastmasters Jon Tan who also took the role as our General Evaluator. His delivered a powerful message: that the contest is within us, and we don’t need to compete with others, only with ourselves. It was truly inspiring and enlightening speech to us as we should always challenge ourselves to strive to be better. With exceptional presentation and showmanship, we have learnt a tip or two on how to improve our delivery skills when standing on the stage.

In her track suit, Geok Ean energetically encouraged us to run and live a healthy lifestyle. She was sharing with us about her joyful experiences and the benefits when she runs. We were convinced by her enthusiasm that running is certainly a smart choice as our exercise routine.

President Alexandra Lau then shared with us some communication techniques commonly used in defusing verbal criticism. In a part of her speech, she depicts a scene where the techniques can be applied. She had Timothy Nakayama to play the role of her upset husband.  It was a highly entertaining session as it was one of the “lighter” sessions of the night.

Our final speaker, Timothy had charmed us to send our kids to join “Young Chef Program”, which was proudly organized by the Nakamura Group. It was a demonstration on excellent salesmanship, and we are sure the program will sell out in no time if it ever came to be realized!

The evaluation session went exceptionally well with full of “The Good, Can be Better, and Points of Improvement”. It was led by highly experienced speakers DTM Jon Tan as our General Evaluator, with a panel of prestigious evaluators such as Victor Ong, Timothy, Past President Angeline Lee, VPPR Ian Tai and Area W3 Governor Chor Chee Hoe. Their presence had been truly educational as they shared their priceless feedback and experiences with us to improve further in the future.
