Club Meeting 5 June 2012

As Toastmaster of the Evening (TME) Alexandra was superb, having prepared for her role. Her effort was recognized by Past President Lay Theng who wrote to her the very next morning:

I must let you know that you had played your role as the TME superbly well at our Friendship meeting last night - you were composed, confident, and you spoke with full conviction and passion. I could see that you are unleashing your potential as a leader, ready to take Friendship Toastmasters Club to a greater height. Thank you for the great job done. Keep it up!

It was indeed a superb Dream Deep, Reach High meeting! It was a dream come true, to have Friendship being host to many guests, namely our Toastmasters friends from AFC, Mid Valley and KL Advanced Toastmasters Clubs, as well as Grace's guests Shuen Lee, Zarifah and Veyinn. We were glad that we were able to keep to our commitment (word of the day) to attend this meeting and being part of this fantastic meeting!

For his Invocation speech, Moses’ inspiring message was not to wait for someone to change our lives. Instead we should take the initiative and touch someone’s life.

For Table Topics, Past President Ben prepared 9 questions on his handy iPad. Nancy spoke of her dream of continuing her grandmother’s tradition of making kueh. Although it was tough, tedious and exhausting, she had the satisfaction of turning her dream into reality.

Veyinn, one of our guests, decided to take the plunge and tried out table topics. Although it was not easy for her, doing table topics for the first time, she was off to a good start telling us about her most memorable dream.

When he was asked when is the best time to dream, Ian replied, “I always dream. I never stop dreaming. I am living my own dream!”

Ian wins the Best Table Topic Speaker award

For the Prepared Speech session, it was a night of great speeches! With four fantastic speakers from 3 clubs, it was a night not to be missed.

We were listening intently to all speakers

Sheryl from Mid Valley Toastmasters Club enthralled us with her high speed car drama. Her words and her actions held us on the edge of our seats as she spoke of her life flashing before her eyes as her car spun around 3 times, after taking a wrong turn and speeding towards her destination. Her message to us was to slow down and pray, it may save your life.

Next, SL Ong from AFC Toastmasters Club delivered a highly entertaining speech. It was 1998. He was on an unforgettable 30 hours flight from Taipei to Vancouver.  There were thousands of elephants fleeing, growling and howling in his stomach, the effects of an upset stomach. It was a tormenting and torturous journey for him as he used his willpower to keep the elephants at bay.

From rampaging elephants we moved on to Lifestyle. She seduced Timothy. She kissed him on his check when he was offered a management job. Money, luxuries and a flat screen TV the size of a small country became a part of his life. It seemed that he was living a dream, with beautiful girls beside him as he partied the night away. However all was not well in his life. He had lost weight, he was not happy and he decided that it was time to bid adieu to Lifestyle. In his emotional ending, he said, “The first step is the biggest step. If it’s important to you, you will find a way!”

Grace had us laughing as she spoke of the limited supply of cute, charming, caring, sensitive and strong men. She believed that laughter is like internal jogging, as it makes us happy, jolly and merry. She advocated, “laugh loud, laugh more, laugh now!”

Thank you to our General Evaluator (GE) Ahmad Zakie Shariff, whom our TME aptly described as a great speaker, noble leader and a man with a big heart. His recommendations were sincere as he believes that things said from the heart, touches the heart of the listener.

Thank You card for GE Ahmad Zakie
